CNY 2013 - Year of Water Snake

This is our 2nd year of CNY with bb Rae!
This morning we departed SG at 6.30am and arrived Ipoh at 12.30pm.
The custom at both SG and MY were clear and traffic was smooth too.
We chose to come on Thursday as we fear that tomorrow being eve of CNY eve would be heavy traffic.

It's amazing that a year passes so quickly and my baby is now a toddler and a very active one.
The moment she set her foot on PIL house, she was busy walking and grabbing things within her reach to throw on the floor.
She is simply adorable and nobody reprimand her except me, her mummy.

We quickly bathed her and went out for lunch.
After lunch, we cleaned her and she is now taking her nap.

I think we should be staying in Ipoh for a week.

Busy SAHM

Lately I've been extremely bz due to extra daily cleaning.
No, it's not spring cleaning for CNY, it's just the usual daily cleaning, except that I gotta do sweep and mop the floor 3 times daily!

There is a housing construction nearby and the house gets dusty easily!
If there is no baby, I won't be so diligent.
With a walking toddler at home who is curious in everything and puts whatever she come across into her mouth, it pays to do extra cleaning.
I'd rather work harder than to risk letting bb Rae falls ill!

This is the power of love!

Congrats to my Friend

Yesterday I received a SMS from my friend that she is 9 weeks preggy.
We were secondary school classmates and have been friends till now.
I am really happy for her and wish her a smooth 8 months ahead.

Update on 1 Feb 2013
Sad to update that my friend had a miscarriage and did a D&C yesterday........
A check with the gynae on last Monday revealed that her bb had stopped growing since week 7.
I feel really sad for her.
This reminded me of my previous 3 losses .......
I hope she recuperates fast and try again ........

Shopping with Bb Rae

To bring some sanity back, instead of being home whole day, I'll bring bb out for about 3 times during weekdays.

Usually I'll take her out in the afternoon about 2pm and come home before 6pm.
I ll bring her to nearby shopping mall for a walk to do some grocery shopping or go Orchard to feel the busy crowd.

See my naughty girl playing with her shoe while mummy bz shopping for grocery.

Getting Baby Ready for School

In view of the plan to send baby Rae to school at 18 months, we gotta prepare her to be able to be independent in some ways, like self feeding and toilet train.

I think self feeding is more important than toilet train since she can still wear diaper to school. So we started her on self feeing exercise first.

I've been letting baby self feed herself the simple finger food like tiny baby biscuit, yogurt melt and Graduate Puff and she is able to handle those small bite size snack with no issue.

Yesterday was the first time I let her handle bigger piece of biscuit and banana, so she gotta hold on to them to slowly self feed and munch, unlike those smaller bite size ones she used to eat.
Being a baby, she enjoys playing with her food and is curious to see what will happen if she were to crash it or throw it on the table and floor.

To get myself ready for the mess, I had laid a newly bought plastic shower curtain to be used as floor mat for her and placed her baby high chair on it.
I had also removed the high chair fabric cushion cover to enable easy cleaning of the food stain.

It was really messy!
I think > 50% of the biscuit and banana went to waste, they re all over the floor mat, high chair, sticked onto her clothes and hair ......
So I spent another 15 mins to clear her mess on the floor and chair before cleaning her.

I think it ll be worst when we let her self feed porridge or noodles ....... But this is part of the growing up phase and we gotta take it as a pinch of salt!
I hope she can master the self feeding skill well ASAP ..........

Weaning BB Rae

After breast feeding for > 12 months, I think it's about time I wean her off.
3 months ago, I ve replaced her first morning feed with EBM, few weeks ago, I managed to wean her off the night feeding, so am gradually weaning her off totally from BF.......
I am introducing formula gradually .......

I do feel kinda sad that she latch on lesser but I know it needs to come to an end.
If I don't stop BF sooner, it may be tougher to wean her as she gets older........

School Hunting for Bb Rae

I've been researching on schools for baby to attend when she turns 18 months this June

I ve visited one centre yesterday near my house.
This school caters for toddlers range from 18 months to 6 years old for play group till Kindergarden 2.
Being a private run center, the school fees is at $1k per month for half day service and about $1.5k for full day one.
This school is new and really near to my place as its just 5 mins walk and has big clen class room and big green area and plenty of space for play!

I'm really tempted to enroll baby in this school but is deterred by the high fees!
With just single income earner, it may not be wise to put her there in the long run as I still have no plan of returning to workforce yet ........

I'm also also considering the public run centre and hopefully I can find a place for baby.
Pls wish me good luck!

Last week during CNY in Ipoh, she can pronounce "Hello, Hi"!
Just 3 days ago on 16 Feb, she called me "Mummy"!
At 15 months old, she can count 1 to 10 and she can copy us saying a whole sentence like "what is it?/ where is bb/ good morning/ how r u etc"

Baby Rae is a Toddler!

Random thought: Our bb is now a "toddler"!
But in my eyes, she is always a baby .......

The American Heritage Dictionary defines a Toddler as:
One who toddles, especially a young child learning to walk.
A size of clothing for children between the ages of about one and three years.

MMR Jab

Baby was supposed to ve her 1st dose of MMR jab on 27 Dec 2012 but due to the KL trip, we postpone it to 3 Jan 2013.

We were told that between day 5 to day 10 post MMR, bb usually get fever.

Bb Rae had fever on Day 2 post MMR and it lasted for 2 days.
She is well since yesterday and I hope there'll be no recurring fever.

Happy New Year 2013!

It's 5 min to 1 Jan 2013 and I'm sitting in the living room typing this post while waiting fr the laundry to be ready.
I got a lot of clothes to wash as we just came back from a 4 days trip to KL to meet up with PIL and SIL.

I'd like to wish everybody a Happy New Year!
May your wishes and bb dream come true in 2013!

Merry Xmas 2012!

This year our Xmas is different from previous years as we ve a little bb to play with! It was a quiet Christmas with just RY, bb Rae and myself in our new house. We went to Cold Storage to buy a roasted chic and some raw veg to for a "semi-home cooked" meal RY did the cooking while I bathed and fed bb. It was simple and yet meaningful as this is the perfect Xmas that I've been longing to have .......

Happy birthday my precious bb!

What does 21/12/2012 means to u?
Is it fear of the Mayans prediction of dooms day?

To me, it's a day to celebrate Motherhood and many many more years ahead of being a good Mother to my darling girl ......

I can still remember vividly last year 21/12/2011, what we went thru to welcome u; the anxiety, excitement, joy and labour pain etc

Mummy simple wish is for u to grow up a happy and healthy girl!
Mummy love u always .......

Baby Rae 1st Birthday Party 15 Dec 2012

Yesterday, 15 Dec, we celebrated BB Rae 1st birthday party at my new residence BBQ pool deck.

My mun came at about 12 noon to help me pray to 床头婆婆 while I went to the pool deck to decorate the party venue using the helium balloon and the party banners I bought online for BB Rae Minnie Mouse party theme.

RY went to collect the preordered birthday cakes from Pine Garden and the mini Mickey Minnie cupcakes from Cake Story.

It was pretty challenging to decorate 5 walls and a small pillar column by myself, fortunately my 9 year old nephew came with my mum to help out.

The buffet caterer was punctual and I was still doing the wall decor while he waited patiently before he set the table up to line the buffet spread.
I was racing with time to complete the wall decor by 2.30pm and quickly went back to change and was in time to receive the 1st guest of the party.

We had also hired entertainer to perform magic show, game captain and balloon sculpture to entertain the guests, especially the kids.

In total, I had about 30 adults and 25 kids at BB Rae party.

The kids had enjoyed the magic show, games, piñata and balloon sculpture at the party.

I had dressed my baby up as a Minnie Mouse to be in line with the party theme.

Each kids also got a Mickey Minnie party pack to bring home with them as a gift favor.

We hope that everybody who attended BB Rae party would have an enjoyable day with us then it'd be effort and money well spent!

The party kicked off at 3.30pm and ended at about 5pm!

I am exhausted after weeks of working non-stop on house moving and baby party organizing.
I just want to laze around and do nothing.......

This maybe my first and last party I organized for my baby as its really a lot of work.

Let me recuperate from the exhaustion and the next project will be school hunting for baby to attend when she turn 18 months.

Happy birthday 2012

Last Tuesday 11 Dec was my birthday and I didn't care much about it as I was and am still busy with the planning and organizing of my BB Rae's birthday party.

RY wished me Happy Birthday in the morning and asked if I preferred to have lunch or dinner outside at Dempsey Japanese restaurant, I chose lunch since afraid of possible dinner crowd.

We had a really sumptuous Jap set lunches and I did some grocery shopping while RY headed back to work.

Dinner was just simple home cooked meal.

It was a pleasant surprised that RY came home in the evening with a bouquet of red roses and a box of yummy chocolate cake.

This year I'm a mum to my precious bb girl and it's kinda nice to ve my bb and loving husband by my side. I feel complete and ve no regrets of giving up my career........

After the cake cutting and sampling of the yummy delish cake, I thought all was done and RY surprised me by giving me a birthday gift!

This year he got me another gold bar!
Looking at the rising trend of gold prices, it should be a very good investment.

Tomorrow, 15 Dec, we're celebrating BB Rae birthday. I hope all will turn out well!

Planning for Baby Rae 1st Bitthday

Time flies, soon my precious bb will turn 1 yr old in 3 weeks time!
As her actual birthday, 21 Dec, falls on a Friday, we've decided to held her birthday party on 15 Dec, which is a Saturday.

I've not done any planning yet except for the invitations via FB sent to friends 2 weeks ago as I was too occupied with house moving and unpacking.

I must work really hard to finalize details on theme setting, cake ordering, food catering, venue decor and entertainment hiring etc.

Hopefully I'm not too late ........

Unpacking Done

I'm kind of relieved that the cartons are gone, I.e finished unpacking!
But most of the stuff are being kept away in the store room as I need to tidy up the place to get ready for baby Rae 1 yr old birthday party, which is in 2 weeks time!
Frankly speaking, I've not done any planning for her party yet, except for the invitations.
I need to work on her party planning now to be in time for the ordering and catering.

House moving

We've shifted to our new house since last Tuesday but still ve some stuff need to bring in from the old place.
Trust me, house moving with a small bb is no mean feat!
We need to pack and at the same time care for a hyperactive bb is really stressful.
We must vacate the old house soon as it will be rented out next week.
Now the new house is full of cantons and boxes which gotta be unpack and organize and it's going to take some time.

Baby is sick!

Baby is down with Roseola Infantum. She develops fever since Thursday and her temp goes up and down like a yoyo.
Yesterday we brought her to TMC and Dr Janice Wong told us that if she has rashes by Sun then her fever will be gone but if my Monday she still running at a fever then we need bring her back to clinic as bb may develop other symptoms.
Last night, her temperature peak at 39.3'c and I quickly sponge her and fed her Brufen to bring her temperature down to below 38'c.
Seems like this fever may go on for a few days, I just hope that she will recover soon.
Despite the high temperature, she is still as playful but she tends to latch on more often for milk.
I just wish my bb will be well ASAP, this is a simple wish of a Mother........

Update on 30 Sept 2012:
Her fever subsided as rashes break out. Now we will just need to wait for the rashes to clear.
I am glad that the high fever phase is over.

Back from USA trip with Baby Rae

We are back from our 1st family vacation with our precious baby! My baby is having a jet lag.
She is sleeping on my lap while I type out this post.
It was really a challenge to travel with a young baby but am glad that we made it!
The day that we departed SG, we had 2 pieces of large checked in luggages which weighed 42kg and we returned with 3 checked in luggages of 72kg!
We also had 2 back pack and a hand carry for handy baby stuff, as well as a stroller cum car seat.
I did a lot of shopping in the Premium Outlets but mostly for baby. I only got a dress for myself!

Bringing baby on a holiday requires careful planning, execution of plans and setting reasonable expectations.

We had covered San Francisco, Los Angeles & Las Vegas within the 2 weeks trip.

Actually I think holiday with baby is ok and the toughest part was the luggage packing since we changed 4 hotels.

When we told friends and relatives about our USA holiday plan with our 8 months old baby, some gave us negative input and dissuaded us from going as they said it would be very tough and impossible to travel. We ve proved them wrong that it's doable!

Having a baby should not stop us from going anywhere as long as we are well prepared!

Lazy

I realized that with the arrival of Bb Rae, I hardly write on my blog. I am too lazy to do anything after doing all the cooking, washing, feeding, putting Bb to sleep etc. And during her nap/ sleep, I will be busy doing laundry or folding her clothes etc, and if I really ve any free time, i would rather sit on the sofa and do nothing as I am really drained out ....... Maybe I still need some time to get used to being a SAHM! Once I am used to this new role, I should be able to manage myself and Bb better (which I hope asap)!

Shopping

Ever since being a mum, I hardly go shopping as I am home most of the time to care for Bb Rae, even if I do during the weekend when RY brings us out, the department that I'd go is the baby section for diapers, baby food and fresh produce section to get fishes, poultry, eggs, cheese and yogurt for Bb Rae. I don't visit the adult clothes, jewelry, or shoes section anymore, this is so different from last time prior to the arrival of baby! If I do look at clothes, it ll be baby clothes for my darling girl. I think I should not be so obsessed with baby stuff, I should shop something for myself when we are in USA!

She is back to 50th Percentile!

This morning we went to the clinic to consult the PD about the rashes which developed on BB Rae's chin. The doc advised that the rashes could be just irritants caused by her dripping saliva and not too much of a concern and told us to keep her clean and also proscribed a very mild Bb safe cream for the affected area. We also get some Bb travel medication as we will be bringing her to USA in end Aug. Yes, we are bringing our Bb with us on a long haul trip for 2 weeks! I was delighted that the weight reading showed that she is 7.16kg, height 71 cm and head circumference 42.5cm! I was really happy as she is back to 50th percentile! I hope my Bb will continue to eat, sleep, play, poo & pee well! This is a simple wish of a Mother!

Feeding my 7 months old Bb Rae

3 weeks ago, we brought Bb to her PD to check on her overall well being and also have a 2nd dose of pneumococcal jab. I was shocked to see her lost 200g of weight instead of gaining, but she did grow 2cm taller. I ve been feeding her cereal, fruits and veg puree and the Dr said those are not enough and we should start feeding her protein diet to build her muscle. My poor baby dropped to 10th percentile from the previous 50th in terms of weight reading. Actually Bb had been very active in crawling and jumping in her Jumperoo, so she may ve burnt a lot of energy. Since 3 weeks ago, I ve been cooking porridge with fish or minced pork for Bb. I hope she will gain sufficient weight and also build more muscle. The next PD visit will be Sept and hopefully Bb Rae can put on more weight and grow wellM

Feeding 6 Months Old BB Rae

I ve started Bb Rae with semi solid since she was 5+ months old. I started with white rice cereal mix with my breast milk and she enjoyed very much. When she turned 6 months, I started to give her home made puree like broccoli with potatoes, sweet potatoes with carrot, pumpkin with sweet corn. I also give her fresh fruits like papaya, banana, pear, apple, avocado, golden kiwi, orange. I had tried giving her home cooked porridge but she doesn't seem to enjoy. Now I d feed her puree for lunch, 2 teaspoon of cereal and fresh fruits for dinner. My bb still prefers milk than solid, so the portion I give her is pretty small as she still latch on for milk 6 to 7 times a day. I was shocked when 1 mommy friend told me that she fed her 4 months old bb commercial cheesecake, yummy yogurt sold from counter, yakult etc. She is aware of the high sugar content but she thinks the goodness of those food outlay the bads. Don't she realized these r processed food high in sugar and other addictives which may be bad for bb internal organs like liver, kidney, digestive system etc as they r newly formed? Also bb may get addicted to sweet or salty taste and as they grow they may yearn for more sugar or salt and turn into a fussy eater! No I didn't confront this mommy as I think she is an adult and a Mother herself, so she can decide what is best for her own bb. She is responsible for her action, be it Good or Bad! If bb ever gets sick, we all know who will suffer!!

I am back on my health!

It took me 7 days to recover from the Rotavirus attack! I am glad to be back on my health to be able to care for my Princess Rae! This rotavirus is really potent and as a adult, it took me so long to recover, I wonder what will happen to bb if she ever gets it ....... But lucky Bb Rae had her rotavirus vaccination completed since 2 months ago. I hope I won't get sick again as I don't wish to neglect my bb anymore.

I'm very sick!

I am really sick! This is the 1st time I fall sick since last June. 3 days ago I woke up with a heavy head and painful joint, I knew I had fever but I still try my best to complete the daily baby caring routine and drink as much water as I can to cool the body down. RY took half day off to relieve me from bb caring so that I can rest, he wanted to bring me to doctor but I refused as I am breast feeding and don't think I'd take any medication. By evening, my condition got worst, I started to vomit and too frail to eat or drink. I slept thru the night while RY attend to baby. The next morning, my fever subsided but I had diarrhea. I was very stubborn and refused to go to doc as I thought my body will self heal by passing out the toxins. My stomach was also churning with pain. I still ve fever on and off. By evening, the diarrhea was really bad that despite taking lomotil, it still didn't stop the diarrhea. I finally gave up and went to the doc. The doc suspected that I might ve rotavirus infection since it's like an epidemic in SG recently. He has a few patients who suffered the same as me and need to be hospitalized since normal antibiotic didnt work. I was told to go to hospital if the jab and other medication he gave me didn't stop my diarrhea the next day. I was still having mild diarrhea yesterday and RY wanted to admit me to hospital, again I refused as I need to care for my bb as I ve no help. I tried my best to rest and hydrate myself, hoping that the body will heal faster. Today is the 4th day and I sincerely hope that I'd recover well. This rotavirus is really potent, I ve lost 3kg within 3 days. The body just shut down and refused any intake of food, so I didn't eat or drink much but still diarrhea >20 times within a day. I feel really sorry for my bb that i can't attend to her fully and my milk production has significantly reduced and she not drinking enough. I am very upset and angry with myself that I fell so ill, I am everything to my baby and yet I am helpless sitting there just watching her cry as I was too weak to carry or pacify her. I must get well soon for my baby! My poor husband has to care for her on my behalf. A SAHM's (with no helper) fear is to fall sick!

Welcome to Motherhood

I'd like to welcome my friend to Motherhood! I am very happy for a friend whom I get to know thru this blog of mine that she had delivered a healthy baby girl on 22 April 2012! Just like myself, she had struggled with fertility issue for some time before this pregnancy. There are many success stories around us and I sincerely urged the many pregger hopeful out there not to give up. God listens to our sincere prayer and will grant us our wish! Just need to be patient! I am happy to make new friends thru my blog and hope that many of you will join me in this journey of Motherhood soon!

Baby Rae at 5 months 18 days old

Last Fri,we brought bb to the clinic for her last 6 in 1 vaccination jab. I was very pleased to see her measurement scale being 66cm tall and 6.7kg heavy! By right she is supposed to have her prenumocuccal jab too but we decided to defer that jab to next month for fear of high fever side effect. We did both jabs in March and resulted in fever reading of 38.5'c. She did develop fever last Fri afternoon but not that high, it was about 38'c. Despite running at a fever, she was still as playful!

Teething

My 5 months old baby is teething! She has been waking up in the middle of the night for comfort nursing. Previously, she was able to sleep thru from 10pm to 8am. Last week she also had slight fever due to teething too. I can see 2 white enamel popping out from her upper gum. I hope all her discomfort will be gone very soon and she can sleep thru the night till next morning!

Happy Mother's Day!

Today, 13 May 2012, is my First Mother's Day celebration with RY and Baby Rae! The morning was started with a surprised gift from RY, it's a choco banana cake delivered from Operation Smile! 2 weeks ago, RY ordered a cake from Project Operation Smike as my Mother's Day gift. This is very meaningful as we get to do charity while savoring the yummy cake! In the evening 5pm, RY took us to Botanic Garden to attend to a open air concert by SSO. While we enjoyed to the nice classical pieces, BB Rae fell asleep. We left the concert at 6.45pm to rush to mum's place for steam boat dinner. It was an enjoyable day since I get to spend it with my loved ones! I am looking forward to next year's Mother's Day since baby Rae will be 16 months old then!

Mommy & Baby Yoga

We started our 1st Mommy & Baby Yoga yesterday 4 May! I had wanted to practice yoga with Baby Rae, so I ve been busy researching for one which suits my timing and budget. I was lucky to find one which only cost SGD10 per class and only required 4 sets of moms and babes to form a class. I managed to gather few friends to form a class of our own. We signed up for 4 classes in May and shall see if we wanna continue in June after the 4 classes. I practiced yoga during pre Preggy days and when I was pregnant with Baby Rae, I was also doing simple yoga posture to relieve some muscle tension. But I stopped after childbirth as I was too tired and lazy from the daily child care routine. Doing yoga with baby is pretty fun! Both of us gets to exercise and play at the same time! It's good to have some interactive activity with baby to have fund together. My baby was worn out after the class that she had a 2.5 hours afternoon nap yesterday! Usually she only takes cat nap of about half hour in the afternoon. This morning when I woke up, I could feel the aching muscle due to the stretching and lifting since most if the time we need to carry baby to complete a posture. I am looking forward to next Fri lesson to learn new tricks! I hope baby Rae feels the same .....

Baby Rae is 4 Months Old!

Today 21 April 2012, Baby Rae is 4 months old!
Time flies huh!
One of the tradition to mark this important milestone is to pray to the 床头婆婆,Goddess of the Children (the Chinese believes that there is a fairy godmother who takes care of the young children). When Baby was a month old in Jan, we did the praying too.
The next time to pray will be during the 7 moon, I.e. Hungry ghost festival.
We had a pot of cooked rice and mee sua as the offering for the praying.

Later in the evening, we will get a chicken drumstick for baby to lick to fulfill one of the myth which is to ensure bb has enough to eat as she grows up.

A Breast Feeding Mom's Fear

Baby Rae is a total breast feed baby from birth till now at 3 months old.
I d like to BF her as long as I can, min 6 months.

My worst fear as a BF mom is milk reduction and baby not having enough to eat.
Each visit to the baby's clinic, I will be very anxious to know about her weight as I am afraid that she is not growing due to not eating enough.

I am trying my best to produce more milk.
TMC lactation consultant had advised me to take Fenugreek as supplement to boast my milk supply.
On top of that, need to drink more soup, eat and rest well in order to produce more milk.

I hope I can produce sufficient milk for my baby precious.

Baby Rae is Growing Well!

My baby is growing pretty well!

She is 12 weeks 1 day old, her height is 62cm and weigh 5.3kg.
Last month 8 Feb, she was 53cm and 4.6kg.

Her birth weight was 2.9kg and 49cm tall.
Isn't it amazing!

Vaccination

BB Rae had her first 6 in 1 jab this morning at the Polyclinic.
She also had her pneumomucocal jab and rotavirus vaccine too.

The jabs needle are really long for a baby.
When the nurse jabbed her, she broke into a loud cry instantly.
Poor baby, she was jabbed twice as I told the nurse to give her pneumomucal jab at the same time.

As we left home at 7.40am, we didn't bathe her till we got home after the jab at about 10am.
She had her milk then slept for 2 hours and is now drinking her milk.

According to the nurse, the jabs may cause fever so we need to monitor closely, once the body temp reached 37.5'c or more, panadol to be given.

I shall monitor bb closely.

Belated Full Month Celebration

My precious bb is 12 weeks and 1 day old today!
Last Saturday 17 Mar, we had a belated full moon party for her in KL since we didn't have any in January due to CNY.

We departed SG to Ipoh on 14 Mar Wed morning 6am and arrive Ipoh at about 12 noon.
I breast fed BB Rae during the long drive and she slept most of the time, so was pretty easy.
PIL were really happy to see bb, they prepared diapers, play pan, baby cot for her.

On Thursday 15 Mar morning 8.30am, we brought BB Rae to the MY birth registry to apply her MY citizenship.
BB Rae is born a Singaporean but we think it may be beneficial for her to have dual citizenship now as I may need to leave her with PIL should I decided to start work.
We gotta wait for 6 months to know the outcome of our citizenship application.

On Friday 16 Mar, we departed Ipoh for KL at about 10.30am.
We stayed with BIL.
We brought bath tub, pails, bouncing net to his place as he is a bachelor living alone in a 2 story house.
In the evening, we went to SIL place to ve dinner together.
The 3 girls were very happy to see bb Rae, they spent the whole Saturday morning preparing handmade cards, gift wrapped toys, clothes etc for bb Rae,

BB Rae's belated full moon party was organized in SIL's condo clubhouse.
A luxurious buffet dinner was catered.
We had more then 60 guests.
The party ended at about 10.30pm and BB Rae fell asleep on our way back to BIL's place.

The next day, Sunday, we had dim sum brunch before driving back to Ipoh.
We spent another 2 days in Ipoh before driving home yesterday, Wed 21 Mar.

Deprived of Sleep

I am very sleepy and constantly lack of sleep!
Why?
Because of my Baby Rae!
I had not slept well since week 37 of my pregnancy due to the backache, pressing tummy, anxiety of child birth.
After baby is born, I have yet to get a continuous sleep greater then 3 hours due to night feeds.
Yes, I had a confinement nanny to have me during the 1st month upon child birth, but as I only gave breast milk via latch on (with no bottle feeding), I gotta wake up to feed baby personally.
Her last feed for the night is 9pm, then next feed at 3am, 6am, 9am, followed by 2 hourly feed till 9pm at night and the same routine the next day!
When she sleeps, I can't sleep as I gotta express milk from my engorged breast.
Now when the confinement nanny is gone, I am caring for her alone, so I gotta be alert and keep a watchful eyes over her in fear of SIDS!

I am sleepy ...... When can I ve a good sleep?

No, don't get me wrong, I don't regret being a Mother as I know all these (baby, sleepless nights, flabby tummy, dark eye circles, puffy eyes, engorged breast, baby cries, no time for doing own leisure reading or other activities, always rushing to finish the meal quick to care for baby, frequent diaper changing, constant worry if baby drinks/ sleeps/ poos& pees enough etc) come in a package calls "Motherhood" but it also gives you a bonus packet known as "happiness with laughters"!

Happy V Day 2012!

I ve been busy caring and feeding Baby Rae and didn't realized it was Valentines Day yesterday until RY gave me a bouquet of roses and wish me Happy V Day!
I was surprised that he still gave me flowers.
I ve heard from friends that their husband stopped giving them flowers with the arrival of babies.
I'm not sure if he will persist but certainly hope that he does .......
Even though I am a mature adult and a mother, deep in my heart there is still the girlish part of me who wants to receive flowers from my man.

Breast Feeding

I have always wanted to do breast feeding to my babies as I am aware of the benefits of Mother's milk to her baby.
As much as I hope to breast feed, I understand that it may not necessary mean that I can produce any or sufficient milk to feed my hungry baby. Also not all baby can latch or suckle successfully.
During my pregnancy, I kept telling my baby "mummy loves you and will breast feed you to give you the best from me. Mummy will produce lots of milk for you so that you will not be hungry".
I guess this self conditioning could have helped in my breast milk productions.

In about week 36, my gynae taught me simple breast massage technique to induce milk production. I started to produce colostrum in the following week.
I think it was a blessing that Baby Rae was able to latch on to suckle well when she was newly born.
I can still remember vividly when the nurse bring Baby Rae to me for feeding, I merely held her to my breast and she opened her mouth wide to start to suckle.
It was a very thrilling moment to see a tiny baby feeding for food!
At that moment, I was the happiest and satisfying mum with my bundle of joy in my arm!
But being a new born, she tend to fall asleep easily as it required a lot of strength to suck
the colostrum/ milk out.
So I had to constantly wake her up by touching her cheek.
I was feeding her 4 hourly and the nurse would bring her to me as I chose exclusive breast feeding.

My milk supply kicks in on the 2nd day after child birth.
I started to have engorged breast on the 3rd night.
Fortunately the lactation consultant came to my rescue on the next day,Saturday morning, before I discharged in the afternoon.
She massaged my breast to relief the engorgement and also applied cold cabbage leaves on my breasts. She also advised me to latch baby on frequently and expressed the milk diligently using a breast pump.
When I came home, I did as instructed and in few days time, no more engorgement!

As at today, I am still breast feeding Baby Rae exclusively for 9 feeds per day and am glad that she is growing well!
I hope to be able to breast feed her for at least 6 months.
Wish me luck!

Pregnancy Journal 5 - Birth Story

Baby Rae EDD was 24 December 2011 and we were looking forward to a Christmas baby.
But her actual delivery date was 3 days earlier on 21 December 2011.

I was a happy mum to be during the pregnancy and my health condition was good.
Few days before the delivery date, I suddenly felt anxious and can't sleep at night.
I was wide awake in the middle of the night.
On Monday 19 December, it went to the gynae for a routine check and was surprised to see an exceptionally high blood pressure and doctor informed that my water level in the water bag is getting lower. She suggested that I admitted immediately for delivery.
I was shocked and speechless!
I told her I was not prepared since RY was at a meeting and not reachable.
She sent me to do HCG scanning to monitor heartbeat.
I was strapped up for 45 mins to do the scan and fortunately the result was good, so I was allowed home but gotta be admitted on 21 Dec morning for delivery.
She also told me to monitor baby's movement during the 2 days!

When I got home, I quickly did laundry, house cleaning, prepared baby cot mattresses, checked my hospital bag, admission documents etc.
I had the worst night that Monday night as I was worried about baby and imagined that there was no more movements.
It was an agony to go the another night and RY almost wanna admit me on Tuesday morning.
We received a surprised phone call from my gynae on Tuesday late afternoon.
She told me to get admitted on Tuesday night after 11.30pm so that the hospital can help me monitor the baby's movement and I will be induced on Wed morning.

That night, we had a quick dinner, then went to collect my breast pump which I ordered online.
I tried to calm myself down by watch TV before we left for TMC.

We reached TMC at about 11.40pm.
I went to the delivery suite while RY did the admission registration.
I was given laxative inserts to clear my bowel and was given medication to induce labour at about 2am.
I started feeling the contraction pain 3 hours later, then at 6am I washed up and had my
shower.
The contractions got more intense and the gynae came to check on me at 7am and told me that I ve not dilated and will wait for another hour to monitor if I can go ahead with the natural delivery.
An hour later, when she came, she checked and informed that she would do an emergency c-sec in an hour's time since I was not even a cm dilated.
She told me to choose between GA and epidural.
As I was in anxiety, we decided on GA.

Then the nurses prepared me for the operation.
I was pushed to the operating theatre at about 10am.

When I opened my eyes, I was in the hospital ward and it was 11.30am.
I saw RY and the first question I asked him was " is the baby ok? Is she pretty and normal?"
RY told me that all was well and assured me of a beautiful baby.

The gynae came to my room to check on me and asked if I wanted to breast feed baby. I told her yes and she arranged for the lactation consultant to advice me on the breast feeding techniques.
I get to see baby at about 12.30pm and did my first breast feeding despite the painful wounds.
I only managed to give her very little colostrum as my milk supply had not kicked in yet.
Holding my baby in my arm was wonderful, it was like a dream finally came true!
My Motherhood journey starts instantly!
The lactation consultant helped us take picture of our newborn in my arms, I shall always remember that moment ......

CNY 2012 - Year of the Water Dragon!

Happy CNY!

This CNY is different from prior year as we ve Baby Rae!

As usual, we went back to Ipoh for the CNY celebration.
RY and myself had been contemplating whether we should bring a month old baby on a road trip back to Ipoh since it was a long 6 hours drive.

Initially we had decided not to go back to Ipoh fearing that baby would to too young and fragile to travel, but after checking around with friends, we were told it was safe to travel as many fellow Malaysians had done it before!
But we still can't decide on the exact date to travel as we would like to celebrate Baby Rae's full month before we leave SG.

We had intended to have her full month party on 21 Jan Saturday and to travel on 22 Jan Sunday.
After much discussion with RY, we changed the full month celebration to Thursday 19 Jan and to
depart SG on 20 Jan.

Traveling with a baby is no joke as it entailed lots of preparation work, especially mine is a fully breast feb one!

On 19 Jan, after the full month party, we rushed to pack luggage and clean the house.
I quickly pumped 2 bottles of 120ml volume of milk for the confinement lady (cl) to feed Baby Rae for the night and the mid night feeds so that I can concentrate in preparing the luggage for the trip.

We woke up at 3am to feed baby Rae and left the house at 4am.
We were glad that the custom in both SG and MY were cleared, 2 toilet stops were made and we managed to arrive Ipoh at 10.30am.
We dropped CL at her Ipoh address before we reached PIL's place.

The moment we arrived, we quickly bathed Baby Rae and then I breast fed her before putting her to bed.
PIl was looking forward to our return, they prepared a baby cot in our room and another one in the living hall.
We also set up the baby monitor so that while she is sleeping upstairs, we are able to monitor her cries remotely in a floor below!
FIL cooked confinement dishes for my lunch.

With PIL's help, RY and myself managed to do some shopping in Ipoh. They helped to look after Baby Rae so that we can shop in peace.
We took opportunity to stock up cheap diapers, tissues, baby wipes, baby wash etc.

As Baby Rae's full month was too close to CNY, we were not able to hold any celebration party in Ipoh, instead we visited the relatives to introduce the new family member to them.
Being the first grand child of PIL, Baby Rae received generous gifts from many people.
The money gifts would be placed in her bank account.

We stayed in Ipoh for a week and left on Thursday!
Last time, when it was just RY and me, we would leave after a 3 to 4 days stay, but with a baby, we need the additional days to get ready for a long driving journey.
On Thursday morning, we set off at 7.30am and arrived SG at about 2pm.

This CNY was really fun with Baby Rae!
I look forward to the next CNY!

Pregnancy Journal - 4

Gynae Searching

In total, I had seen 4 gynaes, 1 in KL and Ipoh respective and 2 in SG.

The gynae in KL was recommended by RY's friend and the one in Ipoh was recommended by MIL's friend.
The KL gynae was very assuring, he knew about my 3 previous miscarriages history and kept assuring me that this pregnancy would be a smooth and successful one.
I was with him till my 22 weeks detailed scan to ensure the baby is normal and viable before I return to SG.

Initially we had wanted to deliver our baby in KL but due to accommodation constrain during the confinement, we changed to Ipoh.
The gynae in Ipoh was very caring, despite the detailed scan done in KL, she did another round of detailed scanning to check on the organ development and took picture of baby Rae to show us how beautiful she was. It was a relief to know at the early stage that there is no cleft lips.

During my stay in Ipoh, I was having a second thought of delivering Baby Rae in Ipoh. I had wanted a natural delivery so was uncertain about the actual delivery date. I fear that RY may not make it in time in Ipoh to accompany me through out the delivery.
So we decided that we should have our baby in SG.

While in Ipoh, I researched on the various hospital and decided on Thomason Medical Centre to deliver my baby but haven't confirm the gynae. I also enrolled us to the Antenatal Class conducted by TMC commencing in September 2011.

So in mid August, I returned to SG and went to Bintan with RY.
We had shortlisted 2 gynae in SG, the first was Dr AW, we chose him because his clinic is pretty near to our house, but we were not comfortable with him since his consultation was really fast, we had no chance to ask much question.

The second one was Dr WK Tan of TMC.
She is very motherly and patient with our question.
During the first consultation, we immediately decided on her as our gynae to deliver Baby Rae and signed on to her package.
She is a very experienced doctor! Each visit was very assuring!

Pregnancy Journal - 3

Pregnancy Woes

In this chapter, I'd like to talk about the pregnancy woes which I had experienced.

Morning Sickness
No, I had no morning sickness just like my previous 3 pregnancy.
I was worried that this could imply bad omen with no morning sickness.
My KL gynae, assured me that it's normal not to have any.

Hunger
But I did feel hungry all the time during first trimester.
I ate almost 2 hourly and just loved carbohydrates, which added about 7 kg to my weight during the initial pregnancy phase.

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
I had carpel tunnel syndrome starting week 18 and the gynae was puzzled since usually this only started in the later part of the pregnancy due to water retention.
It started with a numbed right palm, then it spread my shoulder and neck in about week 20.
In week 32, my left hand also became numbed.
Up till after 1 month of child birth, my both hands are still numbed.

Water Retention
I could feel my feet swelled in around week 19 but it was pretty mild.
The swelling was gradual and by week 35, my legs had turned into "porky legs" and really heavy which made each step a tough one to move.
In fact my body, face and arms were swollen during the last trimester.
By week 38, my feet became so fat and big that I can't fit into my shoes which was bought in week 28 and was already a size bigger then my pre-pregnancy shoes.

Frequent Urination
During trimester 1, due to the pregnancy hormones, I'd go to the toilet frequently and at least twice in the middle of the night.
In my last trimester, with the growing baby pressing on my bladder, I'd go to the toilet every 45 minutes and 2 to 3 times at night during my sleep.

Backache
The backache started around week 32 and got worst in week 36 as the baby grew.
It was so bad that I got to sat on the sofa to sleep since lying down and getting up from bed was a challenge.
It was only in week 38 that I was able to sleep on my bed as baby travelled towards the birth canal.

Is this Real?

My Baby Rae is now sleeping in my right arm while I am busy typing this post on my iPad.

I ve been dreaming about the day of holding the bundle of joy in my arms and here she is now!
Is this real? or am I dreaming?

I am so happy now that tears of joy are rolling down on my cheek .......

Pregnancy Journal - 2

The amazing baby movement inside my tummy was felt at around week 20.
I still remember vividly that it was a Friday night and I was home alone in Ipoh as PIL went to attend a wake in Kuala Kamgsar - refer to my post in Auguest 2011.

Previously I was complaining to RY that I can't feel any baby movement since such movement usually can be felt from week 18 onwards.

I was surfing the net in the room and suddenly I can feel some twitching movemnt around the tummy area.
The feeling was amazing and unforgettable!

When RY arrived Ipoh the next morning, I quickly shared the good news with him!

Due to the previously 3 miscarriages, I am really paranoid over this pregnancy.
Each time at the gynae clinic, I'd pray hard that I can see the flicker of the heartbeat in the monitor.
The gynae knew about my history and he'd purposely turn on the volume to also let me hear the throbbing sound of the heartbeat, he also keep assuring me that the pregnancy is very strong and I need not be worried for nothing.
He said my anxiety could be translated into negative energy which may affect the baby.
I heed his advise and tried my best to remain cheerful throughout this pregnancy.

Pregnancy Journal - 1

After 9 days of delivery of Baby Rae, I finally manage to find some time to sit down to surf the net and reply to some e-mails.
I've been busy caring for my newborn, breast feed her, pumping breast milk and learning to be a mother .......

I shall start on chapter 1 on my Pregnancy Journal now.

It all began with I quit my job in Feb'11 and went to KL for vacation in end Mar'11.
I was happy playing with SIL's 3 daughters and RY would visit me every weekend, those were care free days.
Then in mid April, I realized that my menses didn't come for a few days, I waited for sometime and them discussed with RY what to do and we decided to visit a gynae in KL for a check.
We were delighted that I was tested positive!
But the pregnancy was not stable as I was spotting.

As this was a precious pregnancy, RY didn't want me to risk losing this precious one so we'd decided that I should continue to stay in KL till all is well.
During the 8th week, I had a blood clog bleeding and BIL quickly rushed me to the clinic to check and was glad that the baby was fine.
The doctor informed that the bleeding could be an old blood clog which get pushed out to make space for the growing baby.

I was put on heavy dosage of progesterone to support this pregnancy.
Staying with the children had kept me busy and as I was out of SG, I was not contactable since I hardly turn my mobile on.
As such, I was able to get away from stress and remained happy for a period of time, my office colleagues tried to get me but I didn't answer to their missed call nor SMS text messages etc.

I stayed in KL till the doctor cleared me in week 14, I.e. End of Trimester 1 and I proceeded to stay in Ipoh since RY was still worried about the stability of the pregnancy.

The 13th week detailed scan really freaked me out as I was worried of the detailed scan result, fortunately, the scanned result showed that the baby was normal.
The doctor had recommended me to do amnio test to further ensure normality of the baby.
After much discussion, RY and myself decided not to do the test as there is a risk of miscarriage.

If you've read about my previous post, you'd see my write up on live in KL and Ipoh.

In week 14, as I was pretty comfortable and assured of the pregnancy, I started to do simple yoga posts and stretch exercise and continued till I was in week 40.

Throughout the pregnancy, I'd put on 14kg and most of the weight was put on during Trimester 1 which was about 7kg and Trimester 3, which was another 5kg.

To be continued .....

Happy Birthday, My Love!

Today 22 Dec is RY's birthday!
This year I didnt buy any birthday gift for him as I knew that he will be getting a bigger and special present, which is our precious baby girl - Rae!

Our precious arrived on 21 Dec which is a day before RY's Bday and he is really happy since from now onwards, he has a darling girl to celebrate his birthday!

As I am still in pain and on fluid diet in the hospital, we can't really celebrate his birthday with a big bash!
We just have a quiet time in the room, just the 3 of us, singing Happy Birthday song to RY!

Isn't it cute that all the 3 of us are December Babies!
Mine is 11 Dec, Baby Rae's 21 Dec and RY's 22 Dec!

Happy Birthday 2011

How time flies!
Today is my birthday!
What was I doing last year?
Oh I was a busy working career women and celebrated with RY during lunch.

RY has not planned any celebration for me so I guess it'll be another quiet Sunday for us to R&R at home.
He has just given me my birthday present, no surprise to get it right.
Yep, he got me another gold bar which he said it's a more practical gift which will appreciate in value!
I guess I will soon be a gold bar collector if he continues to give me as birthday gift!

As I aged, expensive meals, gifts etc don't seem to be appealing and important anymore.
All I want is to be able to spend time with my loved ones .....

This year is different from prior years as I am looking forward to a new role that I'm assuming soon .........

Updates:
RY brought me to Grand Park Orchard - Open House restaurant for a sumptuous buffet lunch.
This evening, he prepared hot pot fish head dinner single handedly without any help!
I feel loved!

Praying for my friend

While I am typing this post, my friend is dealing with a labour pain in the KKH hospital.
Yap, no big deal of labour pain, but having to deliver your baby at 26 weeks pregnancy is a big deal!

Firstly the baby is still very small and the organs are not fully developed.
Secondly, she has gone thru a lot to have this baby after many attempts of IVF fresh and frozen transfer cycle.
Lastly, she was admitted in emergency by herself while her hubby was away on biz trip, since yesterday, and have been in labour pain for the past 12 hours with 6cm dilation currently and not sure how long it will take for a full dilation to 10cm.

I am praying hard for her and hope that she and her precious baby is fine!
She is a brave mother and I am sure she can cross this hurdle to enjoy the bundle of joy!

Updates:
My dear friend has delivered her bb girl safetly at 1kg and the baby gotta remain in the hospital for 3 months to ensure her organs are matured and developed well!
I am really happy for her!

Neglected the Blog!

I just realised that I didn't update any posting for about a month!
Gosh, I ve been really lazy huh!
So lazy that I ve not visited my own blog!!

What have I been doing?
Ummm, I ve been busy doing shopping for grocery, planning dinner menu, cleaning and packing the house, napping in the afternoon, preparing dinner etc.

Ok, I shall be more diligent in updating my blog.

He Loves Me!

Just few days ago, I suddenly had the craving to eat Nonya Kueh (local snack usually make from coconut milk) as have not been eating for sometimes.

We were having home cooked dinner last Thurs and I casually commented that it d be nice if we can have a few pieces of the Nonya Kueh as dessert.

My love was so obliging and he went to get from Bengawan Solo immediately after dinner.
The Kueh was sweet and nice and the thought that my love specially went to get for me made it sweeter!
I know he truly loves me ........

Frugal Life Style

When I first decided to quit my job, I knew very well that our life style will be impacted.

True enough, I am very careful in every cent I spend, unlike previously, I d spent on expensive jewelleries, bags, shoes, clothes with no hesitations.
Now, shopping means window shop with no purchasing!
Even weekend meals now with RY are in food courts and hawker centre, unlike last time we used to have expensive meals every weekends
The only time we splurged was the weekend when I first came back to SG and really missed the Italian food at Casa Roma along Bt Timah Rd.

Maybe we will go for restaurant food once a month ....... Or when there's a reason or occasion to celebrate.

Despite being jobless, I still give my parents monthly allowance.
I d rather thrift on myself then to stop their allowance totally!

Is it hard to imagine that the once materialistic high flying & income executive is leading such a frugal life style now?

I admit that sometimes I do miss the "ability & freedom" to spend (the 5 figured monthly salary had enabled me to lead a very comfortable live previously) but I do appreciate the simple live I am having now as it is pretty stress free!

Currently, the only "stress" is to think of what to cook for dinner" and wonder if the food will turn out well!

Bad Eczema

I wonder if it was the change of weather which leads to a bad outbreak of eczema over my body.

Ipoh was very hot compared to SG, I would say it's drier and hotter.

After a week of returned to SG in early Sept, I began to have bad itch on my body, thigh and arms. Despite the generous slap of moisturiser, the itch still exist and very unbearable.
It was so unbearable that I kept scratching and left unsightly scars all over my body.

Last week, I finally threw in the white towel and went to The National Skin Centre to see the skin specialist.
It was not cheap to consult a specialist as it cost SGD60 just to consult him and gotta add additional cost for the medication, especially when I am jobless now. So I was procrastinating on the specialist's visit.

This skin doc have been my regular doc for the last 20 years ever since I was a teenager as I ve eczema history dated all the way then.

I was really shameless to tell him that I am currently jobless and asked him to give me repeat medication prescription to avoid having to consult him to get medication.
He obliged and even prescribed cheaper medication which cost SGD20 for a month's of supply.
He had suggested that I become a subsidised patient but the catch is I will never be able to consult him since he is a senior doc.
I was rather reluctant so I said I would think about it.

The medication prescribed consisted of a mild steroid Dermasone to apply after bath, pirition to consume when ever I feel itchy, potassium permanganate crystal to add into a tub of water for wash.
After a week of applications, the condition has improved and I gotta be diligent to continue with the medication for another week and hopefully it will recover.

Decided!

Yep, I've decided Not to go to Ipoh in Oct and shall stay here in SG to keep RY company.
So it means I gotta break the news to MIL.

I was torn over this and am now feeling really good having make up my mind!

My mom is also glad that I am staying put in SG.

Mommy's Love

My mom is very glad that I am doing my own cooking now.

We used to visit my mom almost daily for dinner and at times when she was not cooking, we would eat hawker food.

Now that I start to cook my own meals, mom is really pleased.
I would call her up for cooking tips and ideas of what to cook.
She would also call me up to check how am I coping and even buy cooking ingredients (fish, meat, veg, fruits etc) for me and asked RY to go to her place to collect the goodies.

I think I gotta learn how to do marketing in the wet market for fresh ingredients.
I ve been doing my shopping in supermarket which may be more costly.
Now with single source of income, I gotta learn to manage the household expenditure better.

Should I go back to Ipoh?

I am in a dilemma as I am not sure if I should go back to Ipoh ........

Before I left for SG last month, we had planned to go back to Ipoh in Oct to continue with my vacation stay.
PIL are looking forward to my return and had even deep frozen the home baked moon cake for my sampling.

This is my 4th week back in SG and I am rather reluctant to leave RY alone and enjoy myself in Ipoh while he suffers here alone.
He told me that during my stay in MY for the last 5 months, he was eating hawker food for dinner and would dozed off in the study room while working late at home.
The weekly over night bus rides were very tiring since he hardly get any good rest.
I feel very sorry for my love.

During the past few weeks, I ve been cooking simple dinner which he really enjoys.
On the other hand, MIL has been chatting with me over facebook telling me how she misses me and looking forward to my return .........

I must make up my mind soon and hopefully by next week .......

Happy ROM Anniversary

Today marked our 11th ROM Anniversary!

I thought RY would ve forgotten about it as he didn't mention anything for the past few days, but to my surprised, he wished me "Happy Anniversary" the moment I woke up from bed.

My love has bought me a bouquet of roses and had wanted to take me out for dinner.
But I declined to go out, instead I cooked him a healthy meal which consisted of grilled salmon belly, toasted salmon skin, green veg with soup.

I had also bought a slice of Exotic Choco cake and another slice of Strawberry Shortcake from FourLeaves as dessert.
The 2 rectangular shape cakes signify the number 11.

The cake was supposed to be a surprised to RY.
After dinner, he had wanted some apples, but I was worried that he may be too full to eat the cakes after fruit, so I pretended to volunteer to peel the apples for him.
Then I surprised him when I presented the cakes to him.
He was very happy.

This is a very simple anniversary celebration with no expensive meals nor gift, and I hope we can celebrate many more happy years together!

Sleepy Sleepy

It's amazing that despite doing nothing in Bintan for 6 days, I came back with a tired and sleepy body.
I was back in SG last Fri afternoon and had spent almost the whole of Saturday & Sunday sleeping.

I don't usually napped in the afternoon but yesterday, Monday, I actually dozed off on the sofa while watching TV.

This afternoon I was out for lunch and did some grocery shopping, so didn't have any chance to nap.
But I can feel the sleepy bugs bites ........ Soon I'll be in the la la land ......

R&R in Bintan

Yep, I am currently relaxing in Bintan Lagoon Resort with RY (not really a vacation for him since he is at a seminar in the resort).

RY came to Bintan last Thursday and he went back to SG on Sat to bring me here on Sunday.
By right I should come along with him on Thursday but due to the President Election last Saturday, I can't go till yesterday, Sunday.

It has been raining whole day in Bintan so there isn't much outdoor activity can be done.
So I've been lazing in the hotel room.

Prior to this Bintan trip, I ve read about Bintan Lagoon Resort and the comments in Trip Advisor.
The most common complaints are about the expensive food & beverages prices.
I gotta admit that it is indeed very expensive to dine in the resort, basically once you're in the resort, you're "trapped" here and no where to go unless you pay for the expensive transport to get out of the hotel to dine elsewhere.

Fortunately I am with RY for a company functions, so all meals are provided.
Else each meal on average would be SGD40 per pax, which I would not want to pay.

This is my first time in Bintan and I hope to be able explore this island during my 6 days stay.

Home Sweet Home

I'm back in SG!

Last Fri, I had followed PIL to KL and we stayed at SIL's place.
RY arrived KL in the late afternoon and we had a "mini" celebration of FIL's birthday in Taman Desa chinese restaurant since last Fri, 19 Aug, was his exact birth date.
It was a mini one because RY's younger brother had work commitment and not able to join us, and we had previously planned to have a serious celebration on Saturday.

Then the following day, RY brought me to cut hair at mid valley and also did hair henna at Bangsar.
We did some shopping and then came back in time to shower and dressed up for FIL birthday dinner.

We went to Unique Seafood restaurant at PJ, which was the same as last year when we celebrated FIL's birthday in 2010!
We were given the same VIP room with Karaoke facility.
It was a very enjoyable dinner as we sang out lungs out with the kids.
The dinner was pretty costly at RM1.5k!

We only reached SIL home at about 11pm and get tO sleep at about 1am.

The next day, Sunday, we had dim sum brunch at New Court Chinese restaurant.
We went to Tesco to do some grocery shopping before we drove off for SG at about 3pm.

We arrived SG at about 6.30pm.

It's nice to be home sleeping on my familiar bed with RY with me!

SG President Election 2011

In view of the SG President election on 27 Aug, I guess it's about time for me to end my MY holiday.

It will be a tough decision to make on the choice of the President.
I shall think carefully and make a wise choice.

This Fri we will go to KL to meet up with SIL to celebrate FIL's birthday and I shall follow RY to go back to SG on Sunday.

I am looking forward to going home and have gone shopping over the last weekend to get all the Ipoh goodies, like Heong Piang (a kind of biscuit with malt sugar filling), Orchid brand soya source and other snacks etc.

Home Alone

Last Thurs MIL received a sad news that her step mother (her dad had 2 wives, her maternal mum died years ago) passed away in the afternoon, so she and FIL went to the wake on Thurs evening after dinner with me.
They returned home at about 2am on Fri morning and left for the wake again at about 11am same day.

The wake was in Kuala Kangsar (a royal town which is half an hour drive from Ipoh) and for 2 days.
The funeral is on Saturday, which is this afternoon and there will be a group dinner after the ceremony.

Since they need to attend the funeral early on Sat morning, they'd decided to stay in KK hotel for a night.

So I was home alone on Fri!

They didnt want me to go with them as they didnt want to tired me and also RY is arriving on Sat early morning, as such I need to be around to open the door for him.

Being home alone is fine except for the part on finding food for myself!

I had suggested to walk out to the nearby eatery for my meals, but PIL disallowed as Malaysia is generally not a very safe place to walk alone. They had refused to let me go out and also didnt want me to cook my own food since I may not be familiar with their stove, crokery etc.
Luckily we had home cooked fried noodle and fried rice for lunch and dinner respectively on Thurs and there was some left over, so on Fri, I had the left over noodle for lunch and fried rice as dinner.

I had the whole house (double storey semi-d) to myself on Fri till Sat morning and I was really lonely.

This was what I did to kill the boredom:

Friday
- At 11am, said goodbye to PIL and surf the internet till it was about lunch time.
- At about 12.30pm, I heated up my noodle and had my lunch.
- Surf internet and watch TV till 4pm
- Read my novel till 6pm
- Take my shower
- At about 7pm heated up fried rice and had my dinner while watching TV
- Chatted with RY before he left SG home to catch the bus to Ipoh
- At About 8.30pm, went up to the bedroom to surf the net and read my novel till I fell asleep at about 12 midnight

Saturday
- Alarm went off at about 5.30am on Sat morning and also received RY's SMS that he was arriving home via taxi.
- Hurray! RY arrived home at 5.45am (this was the best part since it ended my lonely ordeal!)
- From 6am onwards prepared breakfast and eat with RY and did laundry etc

I am glad that RY changed his mind to come to Ipoh this weekend, else I may need to spend a lonely Saturday too as PIL will only be back after dinner ............ and I may starve since no more left over food .........

Loving Couple

MIL has commented that RY and me are very loving and she is very happy for us.

I am surprised that ever since we've lived apart, I'm in MY and RY in SG, we have never argued or quarrelled.
As we only get to see each other during the weekends, we tend to treasure each other better.
This is unlike those times when I was living under the same roof as him in SG.

We spends short but quality time.

Hopefully when I move back to SG, we can be as loving.

My Love is Coming this Weekend!

I am really happy as RY has decided to come to Ipoh this weekend to spend time with me!

As mentioned earlier that he was contemplating not to come as he just returned to SG yesterday, but since he can't bear to see me spending a lonely weekend in Ipoh, he got his bus tix for this weekend last min at the bus station last night.

Next weekend, we will go to KL to visit SIL and at the same time celebrate FIL's birthday there. So RY will meet us in KL for the celebration.

Happy National Day 2011

Happy Birthday Singapore!
This year, SG is celebrating 46 years of independence on 9 Aug 2011, tomorrow!

I am very happy as RY is spending this long weekend with me in Ipoh, as he took Monday off to stay from Sat to Tue (6 to 9 Aug).

RY has been taking overnight Fri bus from SG to Ipoh (arrive Ipoh on Sat early morn) for the past weekends And return on Sun night to arrive SG on Mon early morning.
Since mid July, he had been trying to get return ticket on 9 Aug (Tue) instead of Te usual Sun so that he can spend longer time with me, but with no avail since the bus ticket was sold out weeks before. He was lucky to secure the bus ticket to come to Ipoh on 5 Aug Fri night and according to the bus company, the Sun return tixs were plenty as many chose to return late on Tue to have a long weekend with their loved ones in Ipoh.

For the last 2 weeks in Jul, we were calling practically the bus company everyday to hope for a return tix on 9 Aug but the reply was negative.
Just when we were about to give up, on the previous Sunday while we were seeing RY off at the bus station, we made a last attempt to enquire about the 9 Aug night departure bus.
To our surprise, the counter staff told us that they happened to have one last ticket as someone had given up his seat!

We were so happy and quickly grabbed the tix!

As RY is spending 4 days here in Ipoh, he is contemplating whether to come to Ipoh this weekend.
He asked me if I would like him to come, I said my answer would be biased so I told him to decide.
I think most probably he won't come, which I will know tomorrow since he would usually buy the bus ticket for the next visit at the bus station before he departs.
So I will only see him the following week!

PIL Relationship

After spending about a month with PIL, I think I understand both of them better.

FIL is a typical Hakka man, very thrifty (he only sting in himself but generous to others) and also a male chauvinist who expects his wife to be submissive to him.
If MIL doesn't listen to him, he will shout at her and call her stupid!
MIL is a well educated lady who is a retired teacher so she is not a submissive wife as FIL would like.

Frankly speaking, I don't approve FIL's behaviour and feels sorry for MIL whenever he blows his top (don't get me wrong, he doesn't throw tantrums frequently and he certainly has never raised his voice at me. His usually target is MIL - his wife).

MIL being a very understandable wife will not confront him immediately while he is filled with anger, she will wait till he has calmed down then she will reason out to him.

She confides in me that she is not exactly pleased with FIL's but has learnt to live with him for the past 30 years.
She said when they were younger and while her mum was still alive, FIL was vey gentle to her and had never raised his voice at her.
But it changed upon her mother's demise.
She had tolerated FIL's bad temper for the sake of the family.
If not, she would have seek a divorce long ago.

I applaude MIL for her wisdom and tolerance.
I gotta learn from her to learn the trick to sustain a marriage.
I do hope that RY would never be like his dad.
I may not be able to take it if he ever throws his tantrum at me.

Kutu Girls Update

Last Fri we travelled from Ipoh to KL and stayed with RY's younger brother since SIL's family was infected with head lice.

PIL visited SIL on Saturday while RY and myself rest & relax, ran our errands like going to bank and I did henna hair dye.

PIL got back to BIL place to meet us up for dinner.
Once they reached BIL house, they took precaution by quickly washed themselves head to toes.
MIL informed that she had thoroughly checked the three girls, SIL and maid for traces of head lice and found none.
As such it should be safe for us to visit them.

After much consideration, we'd gone ahead to meet up SIL and family for Dim Sum lunch on Sunday.
We had a lot of fun and laughter, but as I was still weary about the kutu, I tried to keep a distance from them.
We also went to SIL house while SIL's husband sent RY to the bus station to catch his transport back to SG.

We were at SIL's place for only a short while and rushed off to BIL's house for a complete head to toes wash and packed up to go back Ipoh.

We departed KL at about 5pm and reached Ipoh 2 hours later.

It has been 4 days since we visited SIL and so far we don't feel and itch on the scalp.
Hopefully we are kutu free!

Kutu Girls

Last Wed, SIL informed that her 3 girls were infected with head lice, also known as kutu.
She asked MIL for remedy to treat the girls.

We told her to 1st cut the hair real short, then go pharmacy to buy the anti- head Lice shampoo and used on the girls, then follow by cleaning the house by boiling the bed sheet, pillow case in hot water, sun the pillows, blanket to detox.
After putting the shampoo, she should also get the special comb to comb thru the girls hair to get rid of the eggs.
Another important thing to do was to inform the school about the head lice problem so that action can be taken to contain it.
It's useless to wash and clean the girls, without having the source eliminated, which we believed must be from the school.

Every 2 days, SIL will update on the "termination" status.
We were really upset that SIL didn't follow our advise and take the prompt action.
She only get the medicated shampoo last Thurs night to wash the girls, no hair was cut, the shampoo supposed to be kept for 24 hours, she only left it on for 2 hrs.
Let the girls go to school as usual and when the girls back, use the shampoo for another 2 hours, then let the girls go afternoon tuition.
sat then bring the girls to cut hair.
The maid who helped to manually catch the head lice and comb thru the hair to look for the eggs, also got infected.
SIL also didn't call the school as she is afraid that the school may track down her daughter and accuse her of being the source of the head lice.
So I volunteered to make the call and informed the school on her behalf.

We had originally planned to go KL to stay with SIL today for the weekend since PIL missed the grandchildren.
But we have to change our plan since the girls still have head lice as at today.
We will still go KL but will instead with BIL.
As I am really afraid of kutu, I have informed PIL that I won't be visiting SIL even though I really miss the girls.
I got phobia since I was infected before when I was in kindergarden.
The process to get rid of the kutu is rather scary and I would not want to go thru the ordeal.
Not only I got to wash, clean myself, the house need to be "disinfected", also who is going to manually help me comb thru the hair to get rid of the eggs (if any)!
So PIL will be visiting SIL without me.
I need to take care of myself.
What if I go and get it then I pass to RY since he is coming to KL this weekend to meet us up?

In few hours time, we will be driving off to KL.
I hope PIL won't get infected and in turn infect me ...........
Please pray for me!

Unbearable Weather

Do you believe that it has not rained for more than a week here in Ipoh?
I've checked the weather forecast that for the next 8 days, the weather will be the same - no rain, dry and hot!

The weather is really dry and it got worst with the haze now, as heat is being trapped which makes it even hotter and drier.

During the day, I will sit in the living room, in front of the fan blowing directly at me, and at night, I will be sleeping under a full blast spinning ceiling fan.

MIL has asked me to turn on the air con but I'd refused since I do not wish to increase the electricity consumption which translates into higher utility bill.
Moreover, with this kind of dry weather it would mean much higher power usage to cool the house which is bad to the environment.

My simple wish now is for the rain to come!

Understanding PIL

I think I am one of the rare DIL who can get along well with my PIL, especially MIL.

My MIL was worried that I may be bored in Ipoh that she went to upgrade the internet network to a faster speed with wireless modem (previously it's lower speed and wire connection).
She even dig out all her book/ novel collections for my leisure reading.

FIL has been preparing yummy meals for me and when he is tired of cooking, we will have restaurant food. Looking at the rate i am eating, in no time I shall turn into a "tai fei poh" (I.e. Put on weight).

I gotta watch my food intake and do some exercise.

I also try to do my part to contribute to the household chores, like washing of plates after meals, do laundry.
Fortunately they've part time maid, else may need to help out in house cleaning.

Time Flies .......

Time really files ...... I've been jobless for 3 months!
I do occasionally miss corporate lives but I think I am pretty ok now since I am leading a carefree lifestyle everyday.

I only wanna be happy ........ And I am very happy now!

Move to Ipoh

After much discussion with RY, we've decided to move from KL to Ipoh to continue my long MY vacation.

No doubts the kids are very adorable and I'd enjoyed spending time with them, but I was gradually getting bored and would like a change of environment.

Last Sat, We packed up and moved all our barang barang to Ipoh.
After settling me down in Ipoh, RY drove back to SG on the following morning.
He will come to Ipoh this Fri taking a night bus which will arrive early Sat morning.

I ve been enjoying my stay in Ipoh since the air is fresh and food is yummy too!
I shall stay here until I am bored, then I may either go back SG or to KL.

Expensive Movie Tickets in KL

We've learnt our lesson that advance movie ticket booking should be done for popular movie like X-men!

We didn't get to do Internet booking as it requires min 2 days advance reservation which we only know when we try to book the tix on Sat itself.
Note: this is different from SG since we are able to do Internet or phone booking on the same day.

We took a bus to arrive Mid Valley GSC at about 11.45am and was shocked to see the "long snake queue" - the queue was so long that it didn't seem to have any ending point .......

We ve queued for a while then RY went to check with the counter to find out that all shows for the day for X-Men were sold out.

We then moved on to the GSC Signature cinema which is at the Garden mall side.
We managed to get the last 2 tickets sitting at the corner front row which cost RM24 per tix, total RM48 for 2 tickets.
This is really expensive since a normal tix in any ordinary cinema is half it's price.
As we were eager and wanted to watch the movie fast, we relented to pay the expensive price.

Fortunately the front row seats were not that bad else we would regret paying for it .......

KL Public Bus - Part 2

Last Sat we went to catch X-Men First Class movie in Mid Valley cinema.

We were prepared to catch a cab as we walked out to the main road at about 11.10am.
Then suddenly, Bus U72 appeared and we boarded the bus and happily chosen nice comfy seats for the 2 of us.

Now that we know the bus timing, we'll most probably use the public transport more often to cut cost.

After the movie, we did some grocery shopping and also bought KFC & Pizza for the family.
As our hands were pretty full with the shopping bags, we got a cab home.

KL Public Bus

Last weekend, RY didn't drive to KL so we had no car to move around.
We learnt from the security personnel that there is a direct bus U72 which goes to Mid Valley from the bus stop outside the house.
Since we were really free and didn't want to trap in the house, we'd decided to catch the public bus to Mid Valley Mega Mall.

We left the house at 11.30am and waited till 12.30pm and still no sign of the bus.
Finally we gave up and hailed a taxi.

As we boarded the taxi, we saw bus U72 arriving .........
The taxi fare was RM7 and the bus fare would have been RM1 for each pax.

The long bus wait had certainty intimidated us and for a long time we'll definitely not try catching the public bus again .......

The public transport in MY doesn't seem to be reliable (with the exception of the KTM or LRT as they are pretty punctual but don't stop at the convenient spots which are more accessible by car or bus), no wonder everyone is driving here!

I Just Wanna Be Happy!

My objective now would be to relax and rest and not to be stressed up by anything!

I will do whatever I feel happy doing.

RY is very supportive, I know it's kinda weird that I stays in KL while he is alone in SG and travels to KL every weekend.
He said it's important for me to be happy and he is happy when I am.

My mum is not very pleased with what I am doing now and think that I ve neglected my husband.
I know she meant well but i am happy with this holiday arrangement now and can't be too bothered by what she thinks, as long as RY is not against it.

I may go to HK to join my sis in June since she will be there with her son during the school holidays.
I am still contemplating how to spend my free time now.
Let's see how it goes and my holiday plan may change.

Slack in my postings

I must admit that ever since I started to become a SAHHM and stay in KL, I ve been pretty slack in my postings.

I guess this is because of the stress free routine I am having now.

Everyday doing the same thing and the happiest days would be weekends since RY is with me to keep me company.
I would stay at home from Mon till Fri and RY would bring me out "path thor" to have quiet time by ourselves.
He'd drive me to Mid Valley mega mall or Bt Bintang to shop and dine.

Another reason being the kids like my IPad very much and will crowd around whenever I uses it.
So it kinda restrict my posting since it's disturbing to have them around me.

I'll try to update more whenever possible to journal my thoughts and daily lives..........

Extend MY Social Visit

The kids are having their exam during these 2 weeks and I am needed to tutor them in their Chinese subjects.
However, my one month stay in Malaysia (MY) will be due next week, so we decided to extend my social visit by another month.

Last Monday, RY brought me to the Malaysian Immigration office in Damansara to apply for the extension.
We were there at 8.30am to fill up the form and get the queue number. We get to see the immigration officer at 9.20am to explain my application.
It was smooth and the extension was granted.
But I only managed to get back the "stamped" passport 45 min later.

I am glad that the application went smoothly and extension granted.
I am able to spend longer time with the children!

Kind Soul

Last Monday, RY and myself took a bus back to SG as RY didn't drive.
RY would alternate between driving and taking coach to KL as it could be too tiring to drive consecutively.

As we arrived the Woodlands custom, we were pondering whether to take a direct bus or taxi to go home.
I insisted taking bus to cut cost as we are currently living on single source of income.

As we approached the bus stop, we realized that I didn't bring my Easi Link card (but RY brought his with him) and we also didn't have small change to take bus (SGD10 is our smallest note).
So we asked around for people for small change of SGD10 into denomination of $2 but none got. Then out of sudden, there was this humble looking couple who stretched out their hands with a $2 note to us, saying they didn't have the full ten dollar change but is willing to give us the $2 for free.
We were very grateful but we didn't want to accept their hard earned cash without repaying.
So RY took out a Malaysian currency RM5 to exchange with them.
They had initially refused but we insisted so they finally accepted.

The simple gesture from the humble couple really touched our heart.
Thanks for the $2, kind soul (sorry that we didn't get your name) ..........

Malaysia Bank Account

Last Fri, since it was a Good Fri holiday in SG, RY came to KL (we didnt go to Ipoh as planned since his parents are coming to KL instead)and he brought me to the bank to set up a joint account with me so that I can have easy access to Malaysian currency to spend during my stay in MY.

The bank not only issued me an ATM card but it comes with VISA Debit card function which will link to the bank account to deduct any VISA purchase.

I am really pleased as its one card with dual functions.

Having a bank account in MY may imply my prolong stay here .......

SG General Election 2011

For the last decades, I never get to cast my vote for my estate since it is a GRC and no opposition parties dare to take on the challenge.
I was very disappointed then that I didn't get to cast my votes ever since I turned 21 many years ago.

This year is the 1st time that I wished I don't have to vote since I am currently in KL and don't really wish to travel back to SG just to cast my vote.......

Sorry, I know I am being selfish to have such thinking, but the children are simply adorable and I just can't bear to part with them ........

Well, I will know the outcome on 28 April if I need to cast my vote on 7 May since the nomination cut off date is tomorrow 27 Apr.
I will be a responsible citizen (for the polling) and respect any outcome!

Extend my stay in KL

By right I should be going back to SG this coming weekend but as Good Friday is falling on 22 Apr next week, RY will bring me to Ipoh next week.
So Instead of me going back then pack up and go to Ipoh again, I've decided to remain in KL and he will skip his travelling to KL this weekend and instead come following Fri to bring me to Ipoh.

Loveable Children

The kids have brought a lot of joy and laughter to me!

You just can't get angry too long with them even when they really mess things up.
Just looking into their eyes and when they say "Please"' you sure melt.

The youngest daughter CY just ran to me with a piece of paper cut into shape of a crescent moon, and say "auntie this is for you!" and I asked her what is this, she said it's a moon for you and she just came with another triangle shape paper saying "it's a fish for you"!

In the morning, I will play YouTube video for her to watch cute animal video and she'll jump with joy over those cute animals she sees.

The 2nd daughter SY is a social butterfly.
This morning during our usual morning walk to school, we met an Indian gentleman who owns a tailor shop on the ground floor.
When she saw him, she greeted him politely and then they chatted.
I was surprised to see them acting like good friends.
SY told me that the indian man is her friend because he gives her sweets.
She is a social butterfly who can make friends with anyone.

The eldest daughter AY is a ver sensible girl who likes to sit on my lap whenever she sees me.
It is a breeze to tuition her as she listens and understands very well.
She is a really pretty girl with oval face and big almond shape eyes.

Daily Routine in KL

Morning wake up at 6.30am to see SIL's eldest daughter - AY off to school.
Then I will go wash up and then wake her 2nd daughter - SY, up to get ready to go to school.
At 8.05am walk SY to school which is just a stone throw away.
Back at home about 15 mins later to have my breakfast.
From 9am to 12pm, I'll either play with the youngest daughter - CY or play with my computer surfing the net.
Then at 12.05pm, I will walk to school to fetch SY home.
Eat lunch at about 1pm and then take break by reading my novels that I brought from SG.
At about 3pm, I'll help SIL to sort out her clothes stock which she sells on line.
Depending on the volume, I may finish in an hour's time or take longer if it's a bigger pile of stock.
Then I will tuition the kids in their home work till about 6pm to go for m shower.
At about 7.30pm is dinner time.
I will continue to play with the kids after dinner before I wash up to go t bed a about 10pm.

That's how I spend my day in KL.

How I wish I can do the same with my owns kids ......
I know this day is coming very soon, I just need to be patient.

R&R in KL

I am in KL since last Wed 30 Mar and is having a great time holidaying here.
The only work I need to do is to tutor the SIL's kids in doing their homework.
After staying with SIL for 5 days, I get to understand that being a mom is a full time job, the first to wake up but the last to sleep.
It's really tough ........ But I am prepared for the challenge to be a Mother myself!

I am glad that I came to KL to spend some time with the family.
The children has brought a lot of laughter to me, which I would share with you.
So I ve decided to stay 2 more weeks since I don't have to report to work.

RY came on Fri 1 Apr and will be going back to SG on Mon 4 Apr.
He will fetch me home 2 weeks later.
I don't allow him to come next weekend for fear that the weekly traveling may tire him.
But I think he will still come next weekend to KL to see his darling - Me.
